Bulgarian remanded in custody for three months

A National District Court has handed down three months of pretrial custody as the remand terms against Bulgarian Miroslav Dimitrov, who is accused of cloning dozens of credit and debit cards and taking RD$280,900.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, Banco Dominicano de Progreso began receiving complaints from their clients in December 2015, saying there had been a series of fraudulent withdrawals from their accounts via a variety of ATMs. Once the bank checked their security footage they could clearly see Dimitrov manipulating the ATMs in Sarasota and Luperon avenues, from which he withdrew the money.

The case against him adds that in order to copy the cards he copied the code used to withdraw the money using a fraudulent device like a fascia, which was placed on the ATM and which had a memory, video micro camera and a magnetic strip reader.

Miroslav Dimitrov will complete his remand sentence in La Victoria jail.
