No money for Mother’s Day

Chamber of Deputies president Abel Martinez has turned down a request from dozens of legislators who were asking for money for the Mother’s Day celebrations, which took place on the last Sunday in May. Martinez says Mother’s Day has passed, as well as the elections, so there will be no extra money forthcoming.

Speaking to journalists yesterday, Monday 6 June 2016, he said he would now concentrate on rescuing the city of Santiago where he is the mayor-elect. He said that there was an environmental health emergency due to the amount of garbage in the city, due to negligence by the outgoing administration. Martinez promised to beautify Santiago with improved culture, tourism and arts.
