Police Chief Major General Nelson Peguero has announced that the Police will clamp down on motorcyclists by demanding they have their documentation and that of the motorcycle in order. Several recent reports of crimes have involved motorcyclists.
Peguero announced that 300 new Criminal Investigations Agency (Dicrim) agents were joining the force and 50 new motorcycles have been acquired for new patrol agents in the Greater Santo Domingo area.
An editorial in Diario Libre says that the new measures announced by the Police are just more of the same and there is a need for a change of tactics.
