The Specialized Prosecution Unit for Administrative Corruption (PEPCA) has excluded engineers Jose Pimentel Kareh and Jose Florencio, the former director and former technical director of the Office of Supervising Engineers for State Works (OISOE), from accusations of alleged acts of corruption within the institution.
Pepca head Laura Guerrero says, however, that the Audit Chamber has made progress in the audit, which is being carried out for the period from when Pimentel Kareh took office in August 2012 to August 2015, including the remodeling work at the Dario Contreras Hospital. She added, however, that this information has not been finalized and is only provisional, therefore still subject to modification.
In the formal charges presented to a National District Judge, Pepca only includes the former School Buildings director at OISOE, Alejandro de los Santos Serrano and the former coordinator of the School Buildings Department, Yoel Soriano Fabian, for alleged irregularities in the institution that were exposed following the suicide of architect David Rodriguez Garcia in a bathroom at the Oisoe offices. The original case presented by relatives of Rodriguez Garcia included accusations against Pimentel Kareh and Jose Florencio.
Lawyer Julio Rafael Perez Alejo, who allegedly handed over money that was loaned at very high interest rates so that contractors could finish their work, also faces charges in connection with the case.
A very detailed report has been submitted listing the accusations, which range from criminal association and usurping title deeds to money laundering.
The Oisoe also gained notoriety for the widespread accusations of corruption under its previous director, senator Felix Bautista.
