The Diario Libre Foundation has awarded prizes to the winners of its annual contemporary art contest.
At the presentation yesterday, Wednesday 8 June 2016, Franz Caba, who won last year’s award, said that he had held three art exhibitions over the past year, and had become more critical in his work and was not scared of experimenting. He said that the contest was a platform for emerging artists to show their work.
The 2016 winner Frank Lara was announced by Rosangela Pellerano, president of the Diario Libre Foundation. Lara’s work, “Autorretrato”, received a RD$200,000 cash prize.
The jury evaluated 145 works sent by 130 emerging artists, of which 25 works by 23 artists were shortlisted for the final evaluation.
The two runners up were “Gold War” by Elsa Caceres and 80-20 by Ernesto Rivera, who each received RD$50,000 cash awards.
