Dominican weightlifter Beatriz Piron won two of three gold medals for the 53 kg division during the Pan American Weightlifting Championships held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia yesterday, Thursday 9 June 2016. Piron was competing in the 52 kg division for the first time, after making a career in 48 kg. She defeated reigning champion Ana Lemos of Colombia and Venezuelan Lourdes Rodriguez Gomez, two of the favorites.
In the 48 kg category, Candida Vasquez won silver, behind Ana Segura of Colombia.
