President Danilo Medina cut the ribbon to inaugurate the opening of the new convention center at the Ministry of Foreign Relations yesterday, Thursday 9 June 2016. It is the largest facility of its type in the country, with a capacity for 3,700 people. It has three connecting halls for events covering areas of 1,300, 1,100 and 900 square meters. Speaking at the event, Minister of Foreign Relations Andres Navarro said that although the building was built for the large conventions the government will host this year and next, it will be also available to the private sector for meetings, conventions, workshops and conferences. The center was built on an area of 4,500 square meters on the grounds of the Ministry of Foreign Relations on Santo Domingo’s seafront boulevard, the Malecon.
