Judge Honorio Suzana has sent Carlos Manuel Berroa and Yojander Reyes Castillo (Marana) to three months pre-trial custody at La Victoria Jail. They are accused of robbing Monica and Ana Isabel Cuadra Riestra at gunpoint in the La Esperilla sector in the presence of several children.
A surveillance video of the robbery went viral on 4 June 2016. The incident occurred on Calle Jose Andres Aybar Castellanos in La Esperilla in Santo Domingo. The women were about to get out of their car when they were surprised by the muggers and two other men who are being sought and have been named as Alex Boquero and Yari. The women said their handbags were stolen with important documents and RD$10,000 and RD$7,000 in cash.
As the muggers were leaving the crime scene, a policeman on a motorcycle pursued them, injuring one man in the chase. They fired back at the agent, deflating one of his motorcycle’s tires, and managed to get away. When the injured man went to a hospital for his injuries, the Police were called in and he was arrested.
