The Ministry of Energy and Mines used the occasion of Dominican Republic Week in London hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic and the Dominican Embassy in London to announce the availability of a comprehensive database on the potential for hydrocarbons in the Dominican Republic. The publicly accessible database covers more than 19,000 kilometers of seismic lines in 2D, has more than 1,400 maps and plans, 800 seismic profiles and 200 well registrations. It is available on line with free access to the general public. Seismic lines consist of a map of the subsurface build on sound reflections.
The database has also been presented to potential investors at forums in Doha, Qatar in May 2016 and in Trinidad & Tobago in February 2016. The country also has a new ruling for exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons with clear rules in the intention of promoting international investment in the area.
