Mechanic left to die in helicopter?

Investigations are underway into the helicopter crash in which Air Force Corporal Carlos Emilio Alvarez Martinez was killed. The aviation mechanic was on board because he was from Montecristi and was going to attend a sports event in his hometown with the rest of the passengers.

Sports Minister Jaime David Fernandez, who is a medical doctor, and others who survived with only minor injuries were also on board.

Preliminary reports say that Alvarez died of fatal injuries received during the crash. Reportedly, he was the only passenger not to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He leaves a five-year old son.

The victim’s relatives are claiming that he died because he did not receive medical attention in time. They said the body was not removed for 24 hours.

After suffering mechanical difficulties, the helicopter crashed into a mountain plain at around 8am and the passengers were rescued at around 3pm.

The accident occurred in La Peonia, in Naranjito, Villa Los Almacigos, in the northwestern province of Santiago Rodriguez.

Minister Fernandez was taken to the Ramon Lara Military Hospital for observation.
