The film “Death by a Thousand Cuts” has won the Grand Prize for documentaries at the Seattle International Film Festival 2016. Co-produced by the Pivot television network, the film was directed by Juan Mejia Botero and Jake Kheel. Death by a Thousand Cuts depicts the dangers and the chaos around the mass deforestation along the mountains of Hispaniola combined with the conflicts in the border region between the Dominican Republic and Haiti caused by the illegal charcoal trade. Pivot, together with Univision News are partners in the “Panorama” series hosted by America Ferrera. The eight-part series covers issues of interest for Hispanic television viewers and includes “Death by a Thousand Cuts.”
