Former President Leonel Fernandez was in Colombia on Thursday, 16 June 2016 where he met with the country’s President, Juan Manuel Santos to discuss the situation in Venezuela. Fernandez shared a report on recent progress made in the talks between the opposition and the Venezuelan government. “We want the Venezuelans to find the right road to resolve the problem they have at hand,” said Santos in a press release. He added that Colombia had used all ways to promote dialogue between the opposition and the Venezuelan government.
Fernandez is a member of a commission created by the Venezuelan government to investigate recent violence and that is expected to serve as mediator with the opposition. The other members of the commission include former President of Panama Martin Torrijos and former Prime Minister of Spain Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero
