Speaking on Wednesday, 15 June 2016, Senate president Cristina Lizardo said that the legislature is determined to work hard to complete the amendments and pass the bills to comply with the 2010 Constitution. She says that around 30 other bills will receive their attention. The Senate has practically been on sabbatical as a large number of senators were running for re-election and were busy campaigning for most of the year.
Lizardo said that the pending bills include the Firearms Bill, the Political Parties Bill, the Electoral Bill, the Bill for the 911 Emergency System, and others pending for amendments after the passing of the 2010 Constitution.
She said she is convening senators to meet on Tuesday, 21, Wednesday, 22 at 4pm and Thursday, 23 June at 10am.
She made the announcement while accepting a proposal made by senator Charlie Mariotti who said that the current legislative term ends on 27 July 2016. Lizardo says that of 39 bills, 10 have been reviewed by ordinary commissions and demand urgent attention of the senators. She said they would also be coordinating with the Chamber of Deputies for passing the bills.
