According to Minister for Industry and Commerce Jose del Castillo Savinon, business between the Dominican Republic and Taiwan was worth over US$136 million in 2015.
He said that the Dominican Republic is Taiwan’s leading trade partner in the Caribbean. In 2015, Taiwanese businesses invested more than US$20 million in the country and created more than 3,000 jobs.
In addition, Taiwan is a major destination for the sale of Dominican products, with imports worth nearly US$30 million in 2015 including metals, medical instruments, shoes and electrical equipment.
Exports from Taiwan to the DR rose to US$106.18 million in the same time period.
