While in Panama on Sunday, 26 June 2016 for the opening of the Panama Canal, President Danilo Medina held a private meeting with President of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen. As reported by the Dominican Republic Presidency, the meeting discussed Taiwanese investment in the DR. The President of Taiwan said this would continue to increase. President Tsai Ing-wen congratulated Medina for his high vote count and successful quest for a second term in office. Medina invited Ing-wen to come to his swearing in ceremony in August.
Also present at the meeting were Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta, Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo and Agriculture Minister Angel Estevez.
