There is speculation that the president of the Senate for the next term is a done deed and it is likely to be Reinaldo Pared Perez, who is part of the Political Committee of the PLD in his role as secretary general of the organization. Pared Perez was president of the Senate from 2006-2010 and 2010-2014.
Pared Perez would have been chosen by President Danilo Medina and former President Leonel Fernandez as the candidate who would help unify and direct the Senate. The ruling PLD party is majority in the 2010-2016 Senate and in the 2016-2020 Senate. Pared Perez was first elected to the Senate in 2006 under a Fernandez administration.
His brother, Carlos Pared Perez is personal assistant to President Danilo Medina.
Other aspiring candidates to the presidency of the Senate are Cristina Lizardo, Charles Mariotti, Tommy Galan, Adriano Sanchez Roa and Julio Cesar Valentin.
There is speculation that the two heads of the PLD would also have chosen deputy Demostenes Martinez to preside the Chamber of Deputies. Other aspiring candidates to the post are Lucia Medina (sister to President Medina), Radhames Camacho, Miriam Cabral, Elpidio Baez, Ruben Maldonado, Elias Serulle, Ramon Cabrera and Alfredo Pacheco.
