Manuel Jimenez and other former candidates for mayor of Santo Domingo East have broken inside the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) demanding to know the result of the ruling that rejected their complaint about the election results.
Having reached the fifth floor they were thrown out by security guards.
Jimenez said that they came to get the ruling as no one had notified them and they had to use force to try and find out, having seen it published online without even the decency to notify them. He said they had not telephoned them nor notified them and accused them of lying.
He said the ruling was arbitrary and the same would happen at the Constitutional Court and that he knew that the fundamental rights of the candidates had been violated hence they were looking for a revision of the votes of the election. He said that next week there would be a strike in the municipality to ask for new elections.
Having been thrown out of the inside of the TSE, Jimenez and dozens of his supporters stayed in the front part of the building until the security guard let them go and he was then taken to the police station at Mirador Sur where he was detained for around 40 minutes.
As well as Manuel Jimenez, other protesters were Rafael Rosso, from the Party for National Unity; Domingo Batista, from the Modern Revolutionary Party and the deputy and candidate for the same position, Luisin Jimenez.
