Cuban companies at CEI-RD’s Exporta 2016 fair

Representatives of around a dozen Cuban companies participated in the First Multisector Export Fair: RD EXPORTA 2016, organized by the Center for Exports and Investment of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD). During the event, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba and the Dominican Exporters Association (AdoExpo). The fair and exhibition took place 27-29 June 2015 at the convention center of Sans Souci in eastern Santo Domingo. The agreement was signed by Natasha Guzman for the Cuba Chamber of Commerce and Alvaro Sousa for AdoExpo.

Magaly Estrada, Cooperation director general at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, told Prensa Latina news service that the visiting Cuban mission was supporting the continuity to a process of bilateral trade that has taken place over the course of several months. A mission of Cuban business representatives had already visited the Dominican Republic this past May and more than 50 Dominican business representatives recently traveled to the Mariel Special Development Zone in Cuba.

The representatives of the Cuban companies included food importers and the construction and metals sectors.

Estrada said that the principal objective of the agreement is to pave the way for more Dominican companies to become suppliers for the Cuban market. She says the cooperation agreement is taking advantage of the geographical proximity of the Caribbean nations and an expressed desire by Cuba and the Dominican Republic to continue working in areas that strengthen both countries.
