After a slow start in the regular season, the Aguilas Cibaeñas (12 wins and 4 losses) became the first team of the Dominican Professional Winter Baseball League Championship to qualify in the round robin that ends on Tuesday, 17 January 2017.
It could be another Cibao playoffs as the Gigantes del Cibao defeated the Tigres del Licey over the weekend. The Gigantes (8-8) are now second, followed closely by the Licey (7-9). The Leones del Escogido are well behind (5-11).
