Students in Sabana Perdida in Santo Domingo North celebrated their new 31-classroom facility. On Monday, 23 January 2017, President Danilo Medina visited the area to officially open the Escuela Básica El Ave María that will serve 1,015 elementary students in the extended day format with classes from 8 am through 4 pm.
The students will now receive breakfast, lunch and snacks. The new school is fit with a computer and science labs, a library, and a cafeteria.
