Jail on remand for Puerto Plata businessman accused of fraud

Puerto Plata judge Maria Emelinda Estevez has handed down a sentence of one year in preventive custody for businessman Juan Carlos Morales Capella, his wife, Lourdes Plá and his son Juan Carlos Morales Plá.

All are accused of committing serious violations of the Monetary and Finance Law.

Representatives of the Public Prosecution service raided the offices of Financiera Morales Comercial in Puerto Plata where they arrested the executives, accused of fraud. The authorities confiscated files and materials that will be studied as potential evidence against the family, who are accused of fraud against those depositing in their financial intermediary.
