Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas announced that President of Paraguay Horacio Cartes will visit to be present at the Santo Domingo International Book Fair. Paraguay is the guest country this year. The book fair will take place from 21 April to 1 May 2017.
On Monday 6 March 2017, Dominican Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas met with the President of Paraguay Horacio Cartes in Paraguay. The visit was to strengthen ties for better trade and investment relations between the two countries. The Ministry of Foreign Relations reported that Cartes, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Relations of Paraguay Eladio Loizaga, met Vargas in his official residence in Asunción.
It was agreed that there will be visa-free travel between the two countries. Vargas also met with Paraguay businessmen of the Paraguay Industrial Union (UIP) to establish commercial contacts.
In 2016, Paraguay exported goods to the Dominican Republic to the value of US$8.5 million with very little being exported to there from the DR.
