Interior and Police Minister Carlos Amarante Baret, Defense Minister Ruben Paulino Sem, Police director Nelson Peguero Paredes spoke at a press conference yesterday, 29 March 2017 to announce that elite troops would be integrated into city patrols. These are the Topos, Linces and Swat groups.
The country’s security heads announced patrols of 5,000 policemen and 2,000 military. They also said they are working closely with intelligence divisions of the Armed Forces and Drug Control Agency (DNCD) as well as with the National Investigations Agency (DNI).
The security chiefs said they would be drastic with motorcyclists. Luis Estrella, director of Ground Transport (OTTT) at the Ministry of Public Works recently said that motorcyclists are involved in 80% of the recent crimes.
