DR wins regional age group table tennis tournament

The Dominican Republic is the Caribbean youth champions in table tennis. The Dominican team participating in the 2017 Caribbean Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Championship won the championship held 13-19 April in Georgetown, Guyana.

The DR won events in categories of U-18 and U-15. The DR team won 23 medals – 12 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze, with players dominating in every category. The team won the award for Most Outstanding Team.

The Dominican team bested around 135 youth athletes and teams from Jamaica, Barbados Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Cuba, Aruba, St Vincent, St. Lucia and host Guyana.

By winning the championship, the Dominican team qualified for the 2nd Pan American Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships scheduled for Argentina in July of 2017. Barbados and Guyana, who placed second and third, respectively, also qualified for the Pan American championship.

The event was organized by the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation and the Guyana Table Tennis Association.
