The Ministry of Foreign Relations is promoting the new funeral and corpse repatriation services for Dominicans living abroad. The insurance is now offered at 147 Dominican missions abroad.
The CieloRD plan includes transfer and the wake in the Dominican Republic, or funeral services and burial in the country of residence. Funds are added for unexpected expenses. The new funeral plans cost US$50 a year and covers both the funeral costs in the Dominican Republic or abroad. Credit or debit card and cash payments are accepted.
The service was developed in response to the reality that around 600 Dominicans die abroad every year and relatives are hard pressed to cover the costs.
