Troops from the Ministry of Defense have continued to militarize various sectors of the National District that are considered to have high crime rates. Taking part are soldiers from the Army, Armada and Air Force.
Yesterday, Monday 19 June 2017, from 3am, the military personnel were in Guachupita, where several people were arrested for investigation, and vehicles and motorcycles with suspicious profiles were checked.
The Ministry of Defense has said that the previous Saturday the troops were in El Café de Herrera, Los Americanos in Los Alcarrizos, El Ponce in Los Guarícanos but Guachupita was left till Monday so as not to affect the Green March activity scheduled for that barrio.
Today, 20 June, the troops will move to Gualey, La Ciénagas, and Los Guandules, and Espaillat, and then later to 24 Abril, Simón Bolívar, 27 de Febrero, Espaillat, Capotillo, La Zurza, Luperón, along with others in the north of the capital.
At the same time as the military action, the government is carrying out public works such as fixing electricity, repairing roads, construction and repair of schools, churches and others in the barrios.
