Travel up 5.9% for first seven months of 2017

5.9% more tourists traveled to the Dominican Republic from January to July 2017, compared to the same period in 2016 according to Central Bank statistics. The Central Bank reported that for the first seven months of the year, non-resident foreign and Dominican arrivals were 3,879,334 or 216.456 more than for the same period in 2016.

The overall estimate of the number of air passengers, including residents and non-residents, was 4,239,081, representing a 6.2% increase compared to January-July 2016.

Travel from the European continent was up 21.3% or 143,004 more passengers for the period. This was primarily due to the increases in travel from Russia (up 89,755 passengers), the United Kingdom (12,766), Germany (8,476), Switzerland (5,230), Spain (5,018), Portugal (3,876), Ukraine (3,718) and France (3,542).
