There will be 97,000 hotel rooms in the Dominican Republic by 2018, says the Ministry of Tourism. The Ministry says the fast pace of hotel room construction places the Dominican Republic as the leader in growth in accommodations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Dominican Republic is the leading hotel destination in the Caribbean region. The Ministry says at present there are 82,502 rooms in operation, and another 15,000 under construction.
Most of the hotel construction is taking place in the Punta Cana area, where new roads have offer easy connections to beaches all along an almost 100 km beach coastline. The Punta Cana International Airport is offers more direct flights from more destinations than any other airport in the Caribbean and Central American region.
