India Chamber of Commerce presents two Gandhi films

The Chamber of Commerce of India in the Dominican Republic, jointly with the Embassy of India, and the honorary consulate, are celebrating the 148th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi with a film festival so Dominicans can learn more about his life, and his efforts to spread messages of peace and nonviolence.

The festival is scheduled for the Cinemateca Dominicana on Thursday and Friday, 5-6 October and Thursday and Friday, 10-11 October at 9:30am and 1:30pm. It is primarily targeted to Dominican students. The showings are free of charge.

The films will be “Gandhi” (1982) film by Richard Attenborough that won eight Oscars and “The Making of the Mahatma” (1996) by Indian director Shyam Benegal, winner of the national award in India for best actor and best English-language film. It is a story of Mahatma’s journey toward greatness and his early years before he was famous.
