
A man from Macomb County in Michigan man who fled the country to avoid dozens of felony charges has been arrested in the Dominican Republic.
David Johnson, aged 51, was charged in May 2017 with 27 felonies as owner of Livernois Dental, which he has since sold. He is accused of using a doctor’s information to fabricate US$1.7 million in Medicaid charges over three years. A 2006 fraud conviction landed Johnson on the Medicaid exclusion list, making him ineligible to bill the program.
The Chesterfield Township resident was arrested in the country by U.S. marshals and is now in custody in Miami. He will be returned to Michigan for arraignment, which has not been set.
Johnson will face charges of racketeering, punishable up to 20 years in prison; twenty counts of Medicaid fraud (fourth offense), punishable by up to 10 years and six counts of health care fraud, punishable up to four years
