To the delight of their fans at the Tetelo Vargas Ball Park in southeastern San Pedro de Macorís, the Estrellas Orientales continue to lead the 2017-2018 Professional Baseball Winter League, having 9 of their first 12 games since the tournament began on 13 October 2017.
The Gigantes del Cibao are in second place, with 8 wins and four losses, one game away. The Santo Domingo team, Leones del Escogido are in third place, with 7 wins and 4 losses, just 1.5 games away. The 2016-2017 champs, the Tigres del Licey of Santo Domingo, have gotten off to a slow start.
The Licey can only show for itself three wins, and has eight losses, a 5th place of the six teams of the league. But the Toros del Este of La Romana, still have not gotten their team together and keep ownership of the last place with 3 wins and 9 losses.
