Seven crashed vehicles, two freighter trucks with major damage and several injuries were the result of a major traffic crash at 7am on the 6 de Noviembre Highway in the direction of San Cristobal to Santo Domingo. Traffic was backed up for hours up through the 30 de Mayo and Santo Domingo Bypass roadways. Only one side of the 6 de Noviembre highway was left open throughout the morning as the damaged vehicles were removed.
The accident occurred when a freighter truck loaded with construction gravel overturned spilling its contents over several lanes of the highway, unexpectedly blocking traffic. Another freighter loaded with cement construction blocks overturned in the multiple vehicle collision.
Metropolitan Transport Authority said that a total of 15 vehicles were affected. Fortunately, there were no fatalities.
