Police suspect vehicle malfunction caused death of three

Regy Dally Mery Contreras Montero / El Día

The Police have concluded that a vehicle malfunctioned, resulting in monoxide emissions causing the death of 28-year old Regy Dally Contreras Montero, her 14- year old sister Dohanlly Mariel Contreras Montero and her three-year old niece, Lya Camille Perez Contreras. The bodies of the three were found inside a vehicle parked in the La Esperilla neighborhood in Santo Domingo on Wednesday, 15 November 2017. The aunt had picked up her niece to take her to a birthday party at a mall.

The vehicle is suspected of not having functioning catalytic converter to reduce the buildup of contaminating gases. An inspection of the vehicle showed the muffler was broken and had a high level of corrosion.
