
President Danilo Medina was in Uvero Alto, the northernmost beach area of Punta Cana, on Thursday, 23 November 2017, to preside over the groundbreaking for the Grupo H10’s Ocean El Faro. Josep Espelt, president of Grupo H10 also came for the groundbreaking ceremony.
Antonio Hernandez, director general of the resort, had praise for the government’s “substantial strategic investment in infrastructure to spur tourism.” He was referring to the extension of the Punta Cana roads that now allow for rapid transfers of tourists from the northernmost destinations to the Punta Cana International Airport and attractions of the Punta Cana beach strip and onto the capital city of Santo Domingo.
Hernandez said when the hotel opens in November 2018 it would add 909 hotel rooms. Of these, 291 will be in an adults-only area.
Also present for the groundbreaking festivities were Environment Minister Francisco Domínguez Brito; Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García; and Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo.
