The Migration Agency (DGM) announced the arrest of 555 undocumented Haitians during operations carried out on Saturday and Sunday, 2 and 3 December 2017 in Puerto Plata city, Sosua, Imbert and Montellano as well as other parts of the northern region.
The Migration Agency says that they had received information of large numbers of undocumented Haitians living in Puerto Plata communities. All of those arrested in Puerto Plata were taken to the border with Haiti at Dajabon and handed over to the Haitian authorities.
The institution, managed by retired Lieutenant General Máximo William Muñoz Delgado, said that the operations would now move to other areas and tourist hubs such as Boca Chica, Los Guayacanes and Juan Dolio,
Muñoz Delgado explained that persons of other nationalities who had arrived in the country as tourists and had overstayed their visas, in violation of the Migration Law, were also arrested during the raids.
