DNCD seizes 11,000 kilos of drugs from in first three quarters

The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) reports the seizure of 11,000 kilos of drugs nationwide from January to September 2017. This includes 9,492 kilos of cocaine and 1,602 kilograms of marijuana and 25,000 grams of heroin.

The largest amount of drugs were confiscated at sea and ports, followed by land operations and airports. DNCD statistics are very similar to those for the entire 2016, when there were busts resulting in seizing of 9,649 kilos of cocaine.

The largest cocaine bust was of 1,902 in June and 1,850 kilos in July, during two sea operations. The Dominican Republic has 1,600 kilometers of coastline.

The provinces where the most busts were carried out were San Cristóbal (1,485 kilos of cocaine from January to March), La Altagracia, El Seibo and Montecristi.

As a result of the efforts to combat drug trafficking, 16,189 persons have been arrested in the busts. Among those arrested were 15,043 Dominicans, 1,162 Haitians and 32 Venezuelans.
