The Ministry of Public Works has announced increases in road patrols during the Christmas holidays. Security is being enhanced with 400 extra vehicles as of 12 December 2017 on the roads leading from the seven international airports to ensure the safety of holiday arrivals.
The expanded operation of the road assistance on behalf of the Military and Police Commission of the Ministry of Public Works (Comipol) will be in place through 15 January 2018. Ambulances, mobile mechanics and tire-repairing vehicles, pickups, tow trucks will be on the roads 24/7.
Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo has been mentioned as a possible candidate to the presidency for the ruling PLD party.
