President Danilo Medina was in Puerto Plata on 28 December 2017, for the inauguration of the Hodelpa Emotions and the VH Atmosphere in Playa Dorada.
The Hodelpa Emotions hotel has 475 rooms and is the former Heavens Playa Dorada. Edmundo Aja, chief executive of the local hotel chain, gave the keynote address, highlighting the hotel creates 400 new jobs at the hotel. He said the company had invested US$40 million in the renovations and expansions of the beach property. The hotel has 12 restaurant and bars, four swimming pools, casino, and events and meeting area for 800 persons. Hodelpa is working in coordination with Grupo Viamar and Constructora Rizek.
On the same day, President Medina attended the formal inauguration of the VH Atmosphere Resort and Beach Club Puerto Plata of VH Hotels. He was hosted by hotel owners Sarah Garcia and Roberto Casoni. The hotel has 193 rooms, including 16 honeymoon suites. The hotel operates under the all included model. This is the remodeled Victoria Resort.
