The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) has issued a green alert for five provinces, due to a weather front that could lead to floods, overflowing of rivers and streams as well as mud slides.
Those provinces under alert are Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Espaillat (especially Gaspar Hernández), María Trinidad Sánchez and Santiago.
Rains are expected across the north part of the country including the Central Mountain area due to the frontal system currently moving here from Cuba.
Small and medium-sized boats are being advised to stay close to the coast and not to venture out to sea.
