Give crabs a break

President Danilo Medina issued Decree 6-18 banning the capture of ten species of crabs nationwide during the second quarter of the year. The same 6 January 2018 decree bans the capture of juvenile crabs for an entire year in order to avoid their extinction.

The ban spans from 1 March to 30 June every year and covers the crabs known as Paloma de Cueva, Zumba or Pelú, Moro, Rojo, Jaiba Sirica, Cardisoma Guanhumi, Ucides Cordatus, Gecarcinus Ruricola, Gecarcinus Lateralis and Callinectes Sapidus.
