The new president of the Chamber of Deputies, Ruben Maldonado (PLD-Santo Domingo province), announced a comprehensive remodeling of the Chamber of Deputies area of the National Congress. This includes the area where the sessions take place. He says the renovations will begin in earnest as soon as the present work session concludes on Friday, 12 January. In advance, works have already begun on the lobby and a new area for additional offices.
Maldonado did not tell the press the cost of the renovations but said the objective is to modernize the main legislative hall. He said new giant screens would be installed for projecting the vote of the deputies.
