A 69-year old man and a nine-year old girl died at Bahia de Las Aguilas when their boat collided with another vessel while on an excursion over the weekend. The victims are Katherine Luna who died at the scene and Norberto Almonte who was injured and was taken to the Plaza de la Salud hospital in the National District where he died.
Luna and Almonte were on a tour along with 15 other people from Navarette in Santiago The two boats crashed when one was leaving and the other arriving at the beach at Bahia de Las Aguilas.
The other passengers said that Almonte died due to inefficient medical service as at the local public hospital, the Elio Fiallo, in Pedernales where there were no specialists, no medicines and no ambulance service. They also said that the beach lacked security and lifeguards to ensure tragedies like this did not happen.
