
A mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is visiting on their annual visit to the country. The IMF officials will be meeting with the most senior financial authorities.
Last year, the IMF issued a document that recognized the economic growth achieved by the Dominican Republic, but issued an alert about the urgency of fiscal reform to widen the tax payer base, simplify the taxation system and reduce tax evasion.
Another of the issues that the IMF mentioned was the need to reduce the increasing debt, which reportedly could reach 52.3% of GDP this year.
