Vincent A Dutch Masterpiece aged cheese is delicious and sold at several supermarkets in the Dominican Republic. Now the Ministry of Public Health says it has seized a shipment of 3,565 pounds of the aged cheese consigned to Price Smart Dominicana. The shipment arrived via Puerto Multimodal Caucedo.
In a press release, the Ministry of Public Health called for companies to comply with legal requirements for imports as contemplated in Public Health Law 42-01 and its ruling issued by Decree 528-01 to avoid situations such as this confiscation. The Ministry of Public Health says it will be pressing criminal charges in this case.
The Ministry of Public Health reports that the finding of the expired cheese was made based on the random inspection procedures systematically applied by the Ministry of Public Health inspectors at different entry points. The Ministry of Public Health division, Dirección General de Medicamentos, Alimentos y Productos Sanitarios (DIGEMAPS) was responsible for the finding of the expired food product.
