Permission request open for heavy vehicles during Easter Week

The National Institute of Ground Transit and Transport (Intrant) has announced that as from Monday 5 March 2018, owners and operators of heavy vehicles can apply for a special transit permit for Easter Week. The permits, which cost RD$1,000, are available on Intrant website and will only be given to those trucks that carry fuel, water, milk, pigs, chickens or perishable food.
Those with permits must observe a speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour and must always remain in the extreme right hand lane.

The permits can be requested from Monday 5 March till Monday 26 March. To apply, the cedula of the applicant and vehicle registration document are needed along with other documentation.

Heavy vehicles are banned from midday on Thursday 29 March to midnight on Sunday 1 April 2018. Only ambulances, emergency service vehicle, road maintenance vehicles, garbage trucks and telephone, electricity, coffee and sanitary vehicles are allowed to circulate.
Easter Week long weekend is considered the peak for domestic travel in the Dominican Republic.
