Two children, aged 4 and 7, died in a fire that affected several small homes in Muñoz in Puerto Plata on Sunday night, 4 March, 2018, and an 11-year old child is seriously ill in hospital suffering from burns.
According to information, the children who died are brothers Jhoanfry and Yuleisi Marcelino when the home they lived in with their Haitian parents was engulfed in flames. The victims’ elder brother, Joari Marcelino, has second and third degree burns and has been taken to the Children’s Hospital Doctor Arturo Grullón in Santiago.
It is thought that the fire started due to an electrical short circuit. The fire spread to another seven dwellings.
