
Two members of the gang that killed 43-year old Virginia Veras, Marcos Cabrera Ortiz and Eudy Adelin Roa García, supposedly should have been serving 20 years in jail after they were sentenced for “stealing personal items” of Félix Manuel Consuegra. They had been sentenced in 2015 by a Valverde court. The two men have now been identified as members of a dangerous criminal gang that also murdered Rafael Cruz Hernández.
Eudy Roa had been arrested for stealing the SUV of the country’s ombudsman, Zoila Martínez. As reported Roa had linkages in Haiti where the luxury vehicles were transferred and sold after being stolen in the DR. The ruling had ordered they serve the sentence in a Valverde jail.
On Sunday, 4 March 2018, the Police said that Roa García was the operating arm of a criminal organization lead by Carlos Alberto Villavizar Guzmán.
The body of Virginia Veras was found on 27 February 2018 in Vicente Noble, Barahona, 25 days after she was reported missing when she should have traveled by bus to Santiago de los Caballeros. She lived in Los Tres Brazos alone with her 14-year old son. She had on the same clothes of the day she disappeared, leading her relatives to think she was kept in captivity. The Police suspect Veras was murdered to silence her because she had learned a former boss of hers was going to be murdered.
