Around 600,000 people enter and depart in February 2018

According to the Migration Agency (DGM), during February 2018 557,096 people legally entered the country and another 602,966 left by air. Punta Cana International Airport served the largest number of passengers followed by Las Américas in Santo Domingo, Gregorio Luperón in Puerto Plata, Cibao airport in Santiago, La Romana, El Catey in Samaná and La Isabela airport in Santo Domingo.

The DGM reports 21,123 people legally entered and another 17,958 legally left by the land borders with Haiti at Jimaní, Dajabón, Elías Piña and Pedernales.

By sea there were 142,542 arrivals and 141,874 departures mainly at La Romana and Maimón in Puerto Plata by cruise ships.

The DGM reports that 7,598 foreigners from 12 different countries were repatriated or not allowed to enter the Dominican Republic. According to the report, those repatriated came from Haiti, Afghanistan, Albania, China, Colombia, Cuba, Great Britain, Honduras, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Turkey and Venezuela.

At the same time 592 residencies of different categories were issued to foreigners from 51 nations.

The report goes on to say that 3,140 foreigners were not allowed to enter the country by air, sea and land and 4,458 were deported for irregular migratory status.

Finally, during February, some 201 Dominicans were deported to the Dominican Republic having completed jail terms in different countries.
