The National District volleyball tournament will again be held this year after almost a 10-year interruption. The tournament was shelved when many of the leading players earned contracts to play in international leagues that depleted local talent to participate in the National District tournament.
The National District tournament resumes on 6 April. Coach Cristian Cruz highlighted this is an opportunity for Dominican team members to further develop their skills. The games will be broadcast on TV. The tournament is open to all ages.
The Dominican women’s volleyball team is ranked in the top 10 of the world. The 2018 tournament, the Torneo Superior de Voleibol del Distrito Nacional, is organized by the Asociación del Distrito Nacional with the endorsement of the Dominican Volleyball Federation. This year it will be dedicated to First Lady Candida Montilla.
