National District Mayor David Collado has announced that one of the towers on the Malecon, which has been abandoned for several years in mid-construction, will be converted into a hotel. The high rise is an eyesore on the important sea-facing boulevard.

Collado said that foreign investors, Grupo Veiramar, will build the hotel in the building in front of Güibia Square and that they had had discussions with City Hall about the project, and they would be offered full support. The company has investments on the Malecon and in the Colonial City.

As far as the other abandoned tower block, on Av. George Washington near to Av. Maximo Gomez Collado said that the lawyers representing the owners have been contacted and asked to provide their plans for the building in the short and medium term, within a prudent time frame, as the building could pose a risk to local residents.
